The Mending Project

Do you have clothes you love that need just a little bit of mending? Then you are in the right place.

I am a fashion and textile maker, mender, and designer on a mission to prolong the life of the clothes we love.

Have a look through my portfolio and if you need my help please get in contact so we can discuss the damage and the price of the mend.

Mending Options

There are many forms of creative mending, so I have sorted them into categories to make it easier to navigate what you are looking for. The easiest way to narrow down what you need is to follow the fabric-based guide below. Prices vary for each style of mending, the size of the mend, and the amount of creative input required. I have included starting prices for each.

Woven Textiles

Knitted Textiles

Denim

Woven darning essentially creates a new woven fabric attached and overlapping the current tear. This can be done in a matching thread colour to disguise the mend, or a contrasting one to highlight it.

Prices depend on damage

Traditional darning is also used on knitwear, creating a different texture that can highlight the life of a garment.

Darning on denim can be done in the traditional way, creating a new fabric over a hole. Denim allows us to also use the leftover weft threads to darn with, infusing the old fabric with new strength.

swiss darning

Swiss darning follows the same principles as traditional darning except it is used exclusively for repairing knitwear. The darn pattern recreates the loop structure of stockinette stitching, the most common stitch used for knitwear.

sashiko
Embroidery

Japanese Sashiko stitching is part mending, part meditation method. Following the Wabi-Sabi philosophy, Sashiko allows us to take time to repair what we love and to highlight the life it has already lived. Built mostly from carefully placed patches and running stitches, this technique is perfect for denim to restore some strength and create some beauty.

prices depend on pattern and size:
